LOVE&BOND E.P – Love in This Time and Place

 Feeling a sense of limitation in the conventional practices of local culture—such as mapping, archiving, and interviewing—we sought to experiment with a new kind of networking under the theme of love and friendship. At the same time, we were uneasy with how some public institutions, under the guise of boosting birth rates, organize matchmaking events between men and women. This raised a critical question: what about forms of love that do not fit within such binaries? And could cultural institutions, through artistic programming, move beyond these narrow frameworks?

With the motto “meeting through locality,” we brought people together to question the dominant narratives of marriage, childbirth, and uniform notions of community. The project unfolded in two main parts. The Open Session, which anyone could join through pre-registration, featured programs exploring philosophical approaches to love, ideal-type workshops, artists’ perspectives on love, and discussions on diverse forms of partnership, marriage, and care. The Closed Session, on the other hand, invited selected participants to engage in community-building workshops using conversation cards, stand-up comedy, and field research—fostering small, experimental cultural projects and pairing participants into creative partnerships.

The outcomes of these explorations included a photographic archive of local shops with the word “love” in their names, a map of recommended date routes in Eunpyeong—often called the “countryside of Seoul(Capital of South Korea),” a short reading performance on love and separation, and a performance lecture titled Love in This Era.
