Monuments typically remember the past and function as social devices. This sculpture asks: how can a monument be made for times that have not arrived, or were prevented from arriving? Unlike conventional monuments, this work is composed of steel structure, urethane foam, found objects from redevelopment sites, clay, uncoated paper, spray paint, and gel medium — provisional materials that resist fixity. Images of forms once made to imagine the future are transferred onto the surface through low-tech processes, while a red light source cuts through the mass, bringing past aspirations and unrealized futures into collision within a single sculptural body.
